Hats and Dresses Bridal Shower in DC

My sweet DC bridesmaids hosted a shower for me a few Saturdays ago. The theme: hats and dresses! So, I donned the outfit I had purchased for the Kentucky Derby Party (see the previous post) and was amazed at all the work the girls had put into the event. It was a BEAUTIFUL party! It was a lot of fun! Paige, one of the girls I babysit on occassion, helped me open gifts, while so many friends wearing hats and cute summer dresses enjoyed the great food and chatted. My mom, sister, and Aunt Brenda were even able to join in the festivities! It was wonderful!

Afterwards, Diane wrote up a summary of the party. Diane isn't a writer by trade, but after this, we're all convinced she should be!

Well apparently, Kelli's wedding shower was such a hit yesterday that the Washingtonian wrote up a special report on it in its "latest DC happenings". An excerpt form the recent article:

"Ladylike figures donning wide-brim hats and mile wide grins graced the stately Capitol Hill home of the Pearson's on what felt like the first and most lovely of spring days in DC. The spread began with a southern egg casserole from the kitchen of Miss Sitton. Freshly baked muffins graced the table from the kitchen of Miss Smith, and cheese spread with a raspberry glaze topping arrived from the kitchen of Miss Davis. Fortunately, for those suffering from a late morning yawn, Miss Barbic attended to the coffee and peach cordial. The conversation and dress kept things lively, as well. Some hats were dusted afresh, and some were readily purchased in order to keep up with the latest trends from boutiques such as Tarshae.

But the loveliest of all was certainly the bride to be. Her entrance was applauded, and she beamed with delight from that point forward. Beneath her mocha woven wide-brim hat, she wore an amiable expression along with her turquoise button down dress, slim belt at the waist, and brown peep-toe sandals completing the ensemble. She was a retro southern derby of a jewel.

China sets of old were completed, hand-woven blankets were bequeathed, and custom-engraved spatulas fell in to the dainty hands of the soon to be Mrs. Barbic. The party was a great success. Many remarked it was the best shower they had ever attended. Perhaps it was the fanciful hats or the lavish banquet of finger foods, but surely it was and is the gift of a sweet friend and bride-to-be that made this particular event so delightful."

As you can see, this was quite the party! I look forward to real party and celebration to come! For now, I leave with a recent interview done of Mr. Kenneth Barbic. This will appear in a later edition of the Washingtonian, entitled "The Luckiest Men in DC":

1) What is the first thing you noticed about Kelli? -well I'd be lying to say I didn't think she was incredibly attractive, but the first thing that began to really capture me was her sense of humor and lively personality, and then her thoughtfulness about everything!

2) What is a quirk about Kelli that you find very endearing?-when she gets really tired, I find her expecially endearing, her voice, etc.

3) Eyes, smile, or legs? :) -honestly...legs! But really, all those!

4) When did you know you wanted to marry Kelli? -Early December, around the week of the WH Christmas party, although I was pretty sure it was going to go that direction for some time, it was then that I decided for sure!

5) What has been your favorite part of wedding planning? -planning a surprise honeymoon for her.

6) What is Kelli's favorite DC monument? -the Jefferson.

7) What is your favorite outfit that Kellie wears? Please be as detailed as possible. -the white suit with heels and top she wore on her birthday.

8) If you were going to cook a meal for Kelli, what would you cook? (Give me at least three courses.) -Cheeses to start with, some kind of meat, probably steak, and finish with a non-chocolate dessert.

9) What is your favorite personality trait of Kelli's?-her kindness and compassion.

10) Who is Kelli's favorite U.S. President?-I think Reagan.

11) What is your favorite thing to do together? -spend time with other people, spend time outside, travel.

12) How many kids do you think you'll have together?-A quiver full...;) Probably 3 or 4.

13) What animal best represents Kelli? -A golden retriever puppy, very friendly and full of energy.

14) What's Kelli's favorite song? -oh wow, this is difficult...anything 80's...Electric Avenue, Africa, Thriller...

15) What do you think Kelli will look like on June 13th? (Feel free to describe dress, hair, glowing adjectives, etc.) -Absolutely stunning.
