I went to the Heritage Foundation to hear Senators Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Tester discuss the upcoming Supreme Court hearing of District of Colombia v. Heller, in which the Supreme Court will be ruling wether the Second Amendment is intended to protect the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms or of organized militias. This will set a precedent for future rulings on this matter, and if they rule that it is to protect the rights of individuals, then the DC gun ban will be lifted. Even more interesting is this: since the DC gun ban has been instituted, crime has increased in the city 200%! So KBH is filing an americus brief today with the Supreme Court that has been signed by more than half of all Congressman and Senators in favor of the ruling protecting the rights of individuals. It is going to be such a landmark ruling- the Supreme Court hasn't ruled on this issue since 1939! Almost 70 years!
