Honeymoon: Inn at Robert's Grove and Robert's Caye

We arrived in Placencia, Belize on Monday. We checked into our hotel, the Inn at Robert's Grove (one of the few resorts with air conditioning in the rooms!) That night we ate great food at the inn's restaurant and walked around the resort.  Ken told me that we were leaving in the morning for a private island owned by the resort. We would be there for three nights and four days. I was ecstatic, and could not wait to see the island. It was really beautiful! Our Cabana was over the water, with stairs that went straight into the Caribbean Ocean. The hotel keeps two staff members on the island at all times, Ben and Vincent. They're brothers from a city north of Placencia. It was great to get to talk with them about their lives. The island has four cabanas on it, a few huts with lounge chairs, a kitchen/bar/dining area, and a bbq pit. Ben, the older brother, used the bbq pit to cook conch steaks from the conch he'd caught that morning in the ocean. Ben cooked all our meals for us while we were on the island, and they were delicious. I took lots of pictures of the yummy food we ate! Breakfast each morning, lunch, and dinner with dessert every night. Ken tallied the number of lobster he ate on our honeymoon...9.  Ken also LOVED the Coke in Belize. They use cane sugar in their Coke, and Ken was convinced it tasted much better.
One afternoon, we went with him snorkeling to find that night's dinner. We didn't find much food-wise, but it was so beautiful! Lots of really large starfish, coral, stingrays, and colorful fish. Ken and I spent most of our time on the island (which didn't have electricity and operated on battery power from a generated that was run for about 3 hours each night) reading, snorkeling, laying in the sun, chatting with Ben and Vincent, and taking turns napping in the hammock. The last night we were there, a HUGE storm came through. The wind and rain was so strong that the door to our cabana kept blowing open. Below you can see a picture I took of the MacGuyver skills my sweet husband used to keep the door shut by tying our robe belts to the door and the bed. It was a very intense night, with lightening and deafening cracks of thunder for about two hours. Other than that, we had great weather, and just enjoyed being together. It was wonderful to not have email or internet or telephone. It was just us (and Ben and Vincent).
